Baseball

Inland Empire League: Moscow blanked Lakeland (2-7, 0-6) in the first game and jumped ahead early in the nightcap to grab a doubleheader sweep at home Thursday. The Bears (3-8, 3-6) collected 11 hits, and three players had multihit games in an 11-0 win in the first game. Three first-inning runs would be all Moscow needed in an 8-3 victory in the second game. Paul Wimer notched four hits on the day, and Shane Miller added two doubles for Moscow.

Greater Spokane League: Scott Ward went 3 for 3 and knocked in half of Ferris' runs in a 6-3 win over visiting Lewis and Clark (5-6). Beau Brett pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed one run to push his record to 4-0 and keep the Saxons (10-1) atop the GSL standings. … Derek Ybarro scored the game-winning run on a squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Cheney (1-12) notched its first win of the season with a 7-6 decision over visiting Rogers (3-8). Blaine Gibson finished 3 for 3 with a double to lead the Blackhawks' offensive charge. … Greg Bradley and Andy Vennum combined to scatter four hits and allow two runs, and West Valley grabbed a 3-2 victory at Central Valley. Mitch Phillips hit a two-run double in the fourth inning for the Eagles (8-3). Jake Swantko gave up three hits in a complete-game loss for the Bears (6-7). … Freshman Nic Fowler pitched a complete game, striking out five and allowing just one hit in the last four innings of Mt. Spokane's 5-1 win at East Valley. The Wildcats (7-4) used a balanced offensive attack as five players had one RBI, and four had multiple hits. Tanner Hamilton hit an RBI double in the third inning for the Knights (5-8). … Five players had multihit games, and Mead poured in nine first-inning runs en route to a 16-3 win in five innings at Shadle Park (1-10). David Hennessey pitched a perfect game through three innings and picked up the win for the Panthers (9-2). Matt Walsh went 3 for 3 with an RBI, and Andy Mattingly chipped in two hits and scored three runs for Mead, which remained one gamed ahead of West Valley for third place in league.

Great Northern League: Ryan Reitmeier struck out 11 in a complete game and went 3 for 4 with two doubles to pace Medical Lake (7-1) in a 5-1 victory at Riverside (5-5).

Softball

Greater Spokane League: Emily Anderson led off the sixth inning with a single, stole second base, reached third an a sacrifice fly and scored the only run of the game on a squeeze bunt by Mickenzie Alden in Central Valley's 1-0 win at Mt. Spokane. Lauren Mandler allowed just two hits in a complete-game shutout for the Bears (8-3), and Kristina Demello struck out 13 in a losing effort for the Wildcats (8-4). … Shelby Bethel struck out 11 and picked up her second win of the season as University notched an 8-3 win over visiting Mead. Alexis Obenchain went 2 for 3 with a run and a stolen base for the Titans (10-1), who closed within one game of first-place Shadle Park in league play. U-Hi's only meeting with the Highlanders is Tuesday. Stephanie Parker finished 2 for 3 with an RBI triple for the Panthers (6-6). … Jessi Labish outdueled Lauren Camp to earn her first victory as Cheney edged visiting Ferris 4-3. Labish allowed five hits and no earned runs, and Camp scattered four hits, allowing two earned runs. Ferris walked in Katie Payne, who scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Blackhawks (3-9). Bethany Krahn and Lauren Viau each chipped in two hits for the Saxons (2-10). … Katie Antich scored three runs as Gonzaga Prep notched a 4-2 win at East Valley (3-9). Laura Christian knocked in three runs for G-Prep (5-7). … Mandy Carlon scattered four hits and struck out five to shut out host West Valley (1-10) in a 6-0 Rogers win. Denisha Whitehead had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored for the Pirates (9-3), who moved into third place. … Courtney McKeehan struck out seven and scattered four hits as Clarkston topped host Lewis and Clark (1-11) 11-2 at Hart Field. Tara Ruark went 4 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored for the Bantams (7-4).

Boys soccer

Great Northern League: Riverside outshot visiting Deer Park 17-4, but Stags goalkeeper Alex Lawson recorded 14 saves to lead DP to a 3-1 win. Richie Mullenberg scored the go-ahead goal for the Stags (6-5, 6-3) in the 13th minute. Matt Dougherty had two assists for DP, and Tyler Bland scored the lone goal for the Rams (6-4, 5-3). The Stags moved into second place in the GNL, a half-game ahead of Riverside. … Medical Lake (3-8, 3-5) blanked host Chewelah (0-9, 0-8) and rolled to a 9-0 win.
