Girls: Liberty (Spangle) 46, Garfield-Palouse 41
Highlights: It was too much Kelly Hennessy for the Vikings (17-7). The junior 5-foot-3 junior point guard had 20 points, six steals and sparked a 19-8 fourth-quarter comeback and a win for the Lancers (19-9).
Trailing 31-27 at the start of the fourth quarter, Hennessy grabbed a rebound over two Gar-Pal posts and instantly threaded the needle with a bounce pass to Teara Cornmesser, who scored and was fouled, but missed the free throw. Cornmesser had eight points and seven rebounds for the Lancers. After a Gar-Pal miss, Hennessy drove again and found Taz Brooks for a two-pointer to tie it. Brooks finished with 10 points and four steals.
Carlee Deerkop then nailed an open 3-pointer, but Hennessy answered with a pull-up from the top of the key to knot it once again at 34. Consecutive scores from Liberty, one off of a Hennessy assist, and one off of a turnover she caused, forced a Viking timeout. Coming out of the timeout with three minutes left, Heather Kjack stuck a three from the left corner that stretched the lead to seven, which Liberty never gave up.
Tianna Woltering led the Vikings with 14 points, but cooled off in the second half. Woltering finished 5 of 18 from the field. Elisha Lopez added 11 for Gar-Pal, but also struggled from the floor at 4 of 10.
