Girls: White Pass 51, Orcas Island 24
Highlights: The second quarter was the key for White Pass and the downfall for Orcas Island. After leading by three at the end of the first, the Panthers held Orcas Island (11-9) to 11 percent shooting in the first half, sparking a 22-5 run during the second quarter. The Panthers (21-5) forced 21 turnovers and converted 13 points.
Junior Mikel Elliott led the Panthers with 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting and 7 of 12 free throws, while senior Shaleesa Gillispie added 14 points, five steals and three assists. “Mikel had a magnificent game,” coach Tom Kelly said. “Shaleesa, too. They're were great tonight.”
Senior Molly Rashoff had seven rebounds for the Panthers, who were outrebounded 49-39.
White Pass's offense slowed in the second half, as they made just five of 19 shots. and scoring 19 points. Their defense, meanwhile, held Orcas Island to 14 in the second half on 6-of-37 shooting. Sydney Harris led the way scoring for Orcas Island with nine, while Lanie Padbury added eight on 4-of-17 shooting.
