Boys: Pe Ell 47, Quilcene 44

Highlights: Chris Bacchus could only do so much, and junior Daniel Duncan did just enough to help Pe Ell beat Quilcene 47-44 on Wednesday in the first round of the State 2B boys basketball tournament at the Spokane Arena.
The senior Bacchus scored half of Quilcene’s points, 22, but no other Rangers player added more than six points. They also played all but 10 minutes of the game without senior point guard Nate Burlingame, who left ill.
Duncan co-led Pe Ell with 11 points and hit 3 of 4 3-point attempts, none more crucial than his shot from the left corner with 4.8 seconds left, which broke a 44-44 tie. Jeremy Olsen’s last-second 3-point attempt for Quilcene (19-7) clanged off the bottom of the rim.
The two teams traded the lead nine times and were tied at eight different scores.
In four State 2B appearances, Quilcene is still winless (0-7). The Trojans (17-8) won at this tournament for the fourth time in 18 tries and will face White Swan (20-2) in the second round at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Quilcene will face Oroville (15-8) in the consolation bracket.
