Boys: Riverside Chr. 66, Bear Creek School 44

Highlights: Riverside Christian used two huge runs of 16-3 in the first half and 11-0 in the second half to spoil Bear Creek’s first trip to the state tournament. The Crusaders senior leadership and experience led to a 66-44 first round win over the Grizzlies Wednesday afternoon at the Spokane Arena.

Defense was a huge key in the win for the Crusaders as seniors Matthew Crockett blocked four shots and Chris Pynch helped his team cause 14 Grizzly turnovers.

The Grizzlies tried to claw their way back into the game but couldn’t cut the lead to less than ten points after the first quarter. The Grizzles were led by sophomore Jamie Meyer who had a team high 16 points, six of which came in the third quarter.

The Crusaders were led by senior Jered Cates, who scored 14 of his game high 20 points in the second half. He was just one of three players in double figures for Riverside Christian.

Riverside Christian now moves onto to play the winner of the Seattle Lutheran/Lind-Ritzville game tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. Bear Creek will play the loser in a loser-out game tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
