Boys: Wahkiakum 67, Darrington 49

Highlights: Wahkiakum seniors Josh Rongey and Hayden Miles teamed up for 12 and 23 points, respectively in the Mules 67-49 consolation victory against an overmatched Darrington squad in the fourth/seventh place game at the Spokane Arena.

Miles jumpstarted Wahkiakum (21-6) in the second quarter with eight points and the Mules’ 3-2 swarming zone defense limited the Loggers (17-6) to perimeter shots. Darrington made 7-of-18 3-point field goals to keep the game relatively close until the Mules pushed their lead to 50-33 after three quarters.

Mark Jones shot 2 of 3 and Cory Hoveskeland was 2 of 6 from downtown for the Loggers. Darrington star Mike Parris, who came into the game averaging 14.3 points per game in the tournament, scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting, 2 of 6 from the free throw line. Wahkiakum limited Parris to three first-half points.

The fourth-place Mules emptied their bench with 2:47 left in the game. Darrington followed suit shortly thereafter.

Sophomore Cody Olsen had 17 points for the Mules, hitting 45 percent of his shots.

Rongey dished out six assists for Wahkiakum. Justin O’Dell had seven points and three assists for the seventh place Loggers.
