Boys: Bear Creek 60, Wellpinit 52

Highlights: Ryan Strandin scored six of his eight points in an up-tempo final quarter to lead the Grizzlies to a 60-52 win over Wellpinit in the consolation fifth/eighth place game at the Spokane Arena.

T.J. Flett hit a layup and was fouled following a smooth pass from Cheyenne Swift with 7:41 remaining in the game to bring the Redskins (15-9) within 35-32. But Bear Creek was too deep for the Redskins. Strandin, Jamie Meyer (six points), Nate Castle (five points) and Kyle Blankenbeckler (four points) all had solid fourth quarters for the Grizzlies.

Both teams played a zone defense for much of the game which forced Wellpinit to rely heavily on its outside shooting. The Redskins shot 7-of-23 from beyond the arc, including 6 of 15 from Cody Flett. Flett had a game-high 22 points – eight in the final quarter.

With Bear Creek running down the clock, Blankenbeckler dropped the ball with 3 seconds left to shake the hand of Wellpinit’s Cody Flett. Flett grabbed the ball and banked in a half-court shot at the final buzzer.

Stranding finished with eight points and eight rebounds for the fifth place Grizzlies. T.J. Flett had 12 points and five rebounds for eighth place Wellpinit.

Bear Creek outrebounded the Redskins 47-20.
