Girls: La Salle 78, Northwest Chr. (Colbert) 42
Highlights: The LaSalle girls showed off their championship form against Northwest Christian Wednesday at the Spokane Arena.
The Lightning, last year’s runner-up and state champion in 2006, dominated from the outset and cruised to a 78-42 first-round victory over the Crusaders.
LaSalle opened with a 12-4 run and led 21-9 after the first quarter. The mostly-senior Lightning followed that up with a 23-13 second quarter and led 44-22 at the half.
Jasmine Stohr had 23 points and six steals and Monica Schneider added 14 points to lead LaSalle, which forced Northwest Christian into committing 31 turnovers.
Hayley Hendricksen had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Bryanna Bailey added 13 points to lead the Crusaders.
La Salle advances to play King’s West Thursday at 4 p.m. in second-round action. Northwest Christian will play Tacoma Baptist Thursday at 9 a.m. in a loser-out game.
