Girls: La Conner 37, Liberty 31
Highlights: The Braves held off a late charge by Liberty and senior Sabrina Schwindler scored six of her game-high 15 points in the pivotal final frame to lead LaConner to a 37-31 victory in a loser-out game at the Arena.
Ahead by 10 points at the start of the fourth quarter, the Braves’ lead dwindled to four points during two separate stretches. Junior Heather Kjack cut the lead to 28-24 on an inside basket with 6:11 remaining. Later in the quarter, fellow junior Katy Collins nailed a shot with 1:56 left to make the score 34-30 in favor of LaConner.
Liberty, a team with only one senior, fought hard after falling behind by as many as 14 points, but their desperation shots wouldn’t fall. Kelsey Kennedy calmly drained two free throws for the Braves with 14.1 seconds left to provide the final margin.
Cora Kellerman ripped down 20 rebounds for the Braves. Teara Cornmesser collected five points and eight rebounds for the Lancers. Kennedy hit 2-of-3 3-pointers, all of LaConner’s long distance shots for the game.
Liberty forced 21 turnovers and converted them into 18 points.
