According to the DeSales Web site: ''Christian values are practiced daily by all members of our community.'' Just to the right of that statement is a drawing of the school's mascot: an angry leprechaun with his dukes up, getting ready to rumble. Walla Walla's Catholic schools were started in 1865. (That's not a typo -- 1865.) The basketball team was organized sometime after that.
