Girls: Napavine 49, White Pass 36

Highlights: Napavine took the lead in the first quarter and never looked back in the 4th/7th place game against White Pass Saturday at the Arena.

The Tigers didn’t use any offensive outbursts to pull away. They led 10-8 after the first quarter and gradually gained ground by keeping possession and turning the ball over just eight times.

After an authoritative 72-48 win over St. George’s Friday, the Panthers simply could not catch Napavine. As a team they shot 12-of-40 from the field for 30 percent, but combined with just 2-of-14 from 3-point range, they lacked the offensive punch to overcome Napavine’s steady attack.

The Tigers made 11 field goals in both halves in a consistent shooting day all around. Kristen Lantau led the Tigers with 12 points, but the scoring was spread around with both Courtney May and Alicia Richardson with 10 points. May added seven rebounds.

Napavine took advantage of the offensive boards where they scored 16 second-chance points on 19 offensive rebounds. As a team, they outrebounded White Pass 38-29 for the game.

Deanna Riffe led all scorers with 13 points for the Panthers (17-11) and grabbed six rebounds.

Breanna Moody had averaged 18 points a game for White Pass in the State B tournament entering Saturday’s game with Napavine. The Tigers (25-1) managed to limit her to 11 points, her tournament-low, on 4-of-13 shooting from the field and 1-of-7 from 3-point range.

Napavine takes home a fourth-place trophy after defeating Bear Creek in the first round, falling to LaSalle, beating Reardan and topping White Pass.
