Highlights: Spearheaded by Tori Van Wingerden's sharp-shooting performance at the line, Sunnyside Christian shocked the top-ranked and previously unbeaten Falcons. Van Wingerden nailed 11 of 12 free throws (91.6 percent) to rank fifth all-time on the single-game free throw list at state; the top four are tied at 100 percent. As a team the Knights, who placed fourth in their district, went 23-29 (79.3 percent).
Van Wingerden, a junior guard, totaled 19 points while Emma Newhouse and Emily Hernandez each scored 11, Newhouse also grabbing nine rebounds. Junior guard Roni Jo Mielke had 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead Sprague-Harrington. Senior Stacie Shields added 15 points. Jamie Larmer contributed five assists and three steals.
