Highlights: The free throw line was Sunnyside Christian's best friend in its fourth-place trophy win over Evergreen Luthern. The Knights hit 15 of 21 foul shots, going 11 for 13 (85 percent) in the fourth quarter. SC concluded the tournament shooting 71 percent (71-100) to rank third all-time in that department. In their tourney opener against Sprague-Harrington, the Knights' percentage of 79.3 percent (23-29) was third for single-game records. Tori Van Wingerden hit all six of her free throws en route to a game-high 13 points. Emma Newhouse and Emily Hernandez each scored 12 points, the senior point guard also getting nine rebounds and three assists. Hernandez joins the century club with 148 points in 11 games as well. Her career free throws (51-67) of 76.1 percent is fifth all-time. Junior Cory Warner had a double-double for the Eagles with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Rachelle Rude added nine points, four rebounds and two assists. Though Evergreen Lutheran was playing in its first trophy game, the Eagles established two top-10 tournament marks. Their four-game rebound total of 188 is fourth all time. EV also went 9 for 22 (41 percent) on 3-pointers against Waterville to tie for fifth. The Eagles were making their fourth appearance at state. Sunnyside Christian brought home its eighth trophy in 12 appearances.
