What would you do?

Republic's Derek Gianukakis just blew a breakaway dunk with his team down 13. Would you have gone for the dunk or the layup?

The layup of course, I am suprised his dad didnt chew him out. What a dunce.

i know from experiance the layup would have been a better choice for him and his dad.

He obviously should have layed it in. However, if he had made the dunk it may have helped Republic get fired up.

Oh jesus, that was way off. What a poor choice. Being down 13pts, I would have played it safe and gone for the layup.

going for the dunk was the perfect choice...first of all they still got two points out of the possession...second even though he missed it it pumped his team up alot going for that.

He wasn't even close to putting it down, no points for style...but that didn't make the difference in the game. It came down to team productivity. RHS had no depth to offset the 3 qtr shooting slump of their leading scorer.

Going for the dunk was fine. He and his brother hadn't missed one all year, you're down big and you need a jolt of energy. If that goes down the whole crowd and team goes nuts. I'd let Derek or Zach dunk every time they got the opportunity.

the professor hit the nail on the head..the fact he missed thd dunk is probably just evidence that Derek was a little leg weary..no an explosive dunk right there would have been dynamite and besides I've seen missed layups too..powerful dunks are part of what makes the republic tigers so much fun too watch

hey this is what it comes down to. Two points either way is two points. He had an easy two, went for "a hard two" and that equated to 0 points but a cool picture of him hanging on the rim.

it wasn't a "hard" two...he hadn't missed a dunk all year and everyone knows he can sky. Something people might not have noticed is that the NWC player next to him put a hand on the ball as Derek went up and it caused his timing to be just off that he missed. Plus the Tigers didn't have that FIRE at that point in the game, a lay up would have gave them two points and put them down 11 but the dunk would have put them down 11 and made an ERUPTION from the crowd and the team that might have started a run. Going for the dunk was the perfect choice.

would have gave them huh?

pardon me for my gramatical error. Would have "given"

Quit trying to be like Cody Groth.

All I gotta say about that dunk is that it didn't even matter whether he missed the dunk or should've gone for the layup...NWC still beat 'em in the Championship game! Maybe he'll think next time about being a hot shot and dunking one...
