Sunnyside Chr. 62, Toutle Lake 46

Highlights: Emily Hernandez exploded for a career-high 37 points, setting a state tournament record in the process, as the Knights bested Toutle Lake in Wednesday's first-round play.
The 5-foot-5 junior guard, who averaged just 9.8 points during the regular season, went 17-for-20 from the line to break the previous individual-game record of 16 free throws made by Creston's Tammy Tibbles vs. Darrington 22 years ago.
Already up 10 at intermission, Sunnyside Christian held the Ducks scoreless the first 4:50 of the second half and widened their lead to 22 points in the fourth quarter. Hernandez, who also had four rebounds and four steals, hit her record-setting free throw with 16 seconds remaining.
Senior forward Tyssyna Van Wingerden posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights (18-8).
Sophomore Lindsey Scheffler led Toutle Lake (22-3)with 19 points and four assists. Tyssyna Van Winderden, also a sophomore, added 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
