Fun things to do in and around Sandpoint could probably fill up an entire publication, since there's no end to the recreational, cultural, educational, social and downright fun activities available.
Just take a peek at the North Idaho community's calendar of events or walk through downtown, and you'll see Sandpoint is in action all year long, from the Winter Carnival to the summertime Festival at Sandpoint.
Throw in Artwalk, when galleries open their doors to the public and showcase local creativity, Summer Sounds, a popular free music program on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, and so much more, and it barely scratches the surface.
Visitors can take lake cruises, try fun restaurants, and enjoy great shopping.
Sandpoint is regularly listed in national publications as a great place to retire, or participate in and enjoy the arts. It's close to the deepest lake in the U.S., and literally down the road from Schweitzer Mountain Resort, one of the favorite ski areas in the West.
Schweitzer also finds ways to bring in outdoors fans all through the year, whether it's zipping down fresh powder or hiking and biking through warm summer meadows or driving up for a chairlift ride. It holds a Bluegrass Festival in July and a Huckleberry Festival in August.
One of the most famous community events is the Festival at Sandpoint, which brings in nationally known entertainers but presents them in the very intimate, natural setting of Memorial Field.
This year, its 26th, the Festival runs Aug. 7-17 and includes Smokey Robinson, the Marshall Tucker Band, Wynonna, Ziggy Marley, and the traditional Grand Finale Concert featuring the Spokane Symphony Orchestra.
