Forces of Nature

Dan Webster The Spokesman-Review

Natural disasters are the focus of this IMAX film, namely volcanoes, earthquakes and tornadoes. Director George Casey takes us to the Caribbean island of Montserrat, which sits atop an ocean island that is little more than the cap on a hole to the Earth's core. The night-time shots of an eruption, complete with ash plumes and lightning strikes, is the film's high point visually. Casey, who was working with funds provided by National Geographic, uses the standard IMAX-type get-to-know-the-scientists format. But the shots of the volcano, the look at a fault line in Turkey that might one day level Istanbul and Midwestern tornadoes are impressive, especially on the IMAX's big BIG screen. Not rated (violence, disturbing images, brief sexuality)

Running time: :40.

Credits: Directed by George Casey, narrated by Kevin Bacon.
