The Spokane Home Builder’s Association is getting ready for its annual Premier Home Improvement Show this coming weekend, with the goal to inspire and encourage homeowners, not only on their home projects, but in their hearts as well.

Sponsored by Pro-build, the show runs April 16, 17, and 18 at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, and features more than 200 vendors specializing in everything from concrete to countertops, energy efficiency to home theaters.

A returning component of the show is the successful “Where does your Home Hurt?” contest. Deserving community members in need of home repair such as a new bathroom or kitchen are nominated by their friends and/or family.

Nominations are collected at the show and reviewed over the next two weeks by the Spokane Remodelor’s Council and Home Improvement Show committee to determine the lucky winner. The KXLY Extreme Team and the Remodelor’s Council team up to tackle the project, which is documented on camera and aired on KXLY.

Nomination forms can be filled out online or at the show and must be turned in to the show’s Pro-Corner by April 18.

“As times have changed, the home builders have teamed up to help the community,” said Katherine Morgan, marketing and events director at SHBA. “Being a part of the whole experience last year was really something special; I’m really looking forward to it again.”

Also this year, SHBA will contribute a little differently to its ongoing charity of choice, Wishing Star Foundation. Instead of donating a portion of the show’s sales to the program, the magic will unfold at the home show when one little girl’s wish is answered with the presentation of her very own playhouse, built by the SHBA apprenticeship program.

The playhouse is the annual project for apprentices in learning their trade.

“The show really is about making a difference in people’s lives,” said Morgan.

Visitors to the show can visit the “Pro-Corner,” sponsored by G&S Landscaping, which will provide live, professional demonstrations such as organic gardening with Phyllis Stevens, and “How to Make Your Dream Kitchen a Reality” by Rivercity Solid Surface.

Many vendors will also be hosting giveaways. Avista will continue its popular CFL Bulb and showerhead giveaway (while supplies last), and Comcast will be giving away a flatscreen TV to one very lucky winner.

Also on hand to give hugs and high fives will be Spike the Bulldog from Gonzaga University, courtesy of Comcast.

Visit the show Friday, April 16, and get 2-for-1 admission, courtesy of Direct Buy. Doors open at noon, and the show continues until 8 p.m. A coupon for $1 off is also available on the SHBA website. The show continues Saturday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Tickets are $7, and free for kids 12 and under. Parking is free.
