Cheney Rodeo concludes with Bean top winner

J.C. Bean walked away from the final day of the Cheney Rodeo with the most money in his pocket.

Bean took home $1,472.46 Sunday for his first-place finish in bull riding. Bean scored a 79, one point better than runner-up Max Fortmuller.

Three riders finished in a tie for first in bareback. Grant Richie, Sean Culver and Matt Weishoff each scored 77s and pocketed $835.49.

Fred Brown blew away the field in calf roping. Brown's time of 10.4 seconds was seven-tenths of a second better than runner-up Seth Hopper. Brown earned $1,357.27.

Matt Pasco won handily in steer wrestling, clocking a 6.1 to easily outdistance second-place finisher B.J. Taruscio (7.3). Pasco pocketed $1,336.17.

Karen Gleason was the top barrel racer, finishing with a time of 17.49, just ahead of Chandra Grover's 17.52 effort. Gleason earned $914.25.

Gary Alger was the clear-cut winner in saddle bronc with a score of 82, five points better than runner-up Jerad McFarlane. Alger took home $1,296.40.

Mike Fuller and Brady Minor won the team roping event with a time of 7.4. Fuller and Minor each earned $1.177.58 for the victory. Jason Stewart and Patrick Smith finished second at 7.6.

Baseball

The Spokane Bandits finished fourth after losing 5-1 to Boise on the final day of the Dwight Church Memorial Senior American Legion tournament in Lewiston.

Matt McClenny drove in the Bandits' lone run with a first-inning single.
