- McPECK, Zachary Ian
- (Age 22)
- Zachary Ian McPeck passed away on October 19, 2008. Zach was born March 13, 1986 in Melbourne, Florida, to Bonnie (Parker) McPeck and Jack McPeck, 19 months after his big sister, Roxanne. In 1998 while living in Spokane Valley, the family was blessed with a new baby, Jacquelyn. Zachary and Roxanne both adored and protected their little sister.
- In 1988 the family moved from Florida to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Zach attended Pi Beta Phi Elementary School through third grade and was in their gifted program.
- In 1995 the family moved to Spokane Valley, Washington. Zach attended Adams Elementary school where he was elected ASB president in 6th grade. Zach was in the CVSD Able Learners gifted program.
- Zach attended Evergreen Junior High school from 1999 to 2001 and was in the gifted Extended Learning Program. He played saxophone in the senior band and marched each year in the Jr. Lilac Parade. He played tennis and basketball in the 8th and 9th grades, and was elected as an ASB officer his freshman year. In the summers Zach attended the Satori summer camp for gifted students at Eastern Washington University, where he could fit in and have fun with other gifted teens.
- Zach attended Central Valley High School from 2002 to 2004. He was a very proud member of the CV Bears Marching Band all three years, playing alto and baritone saxophone and giving it his blood, sweat and tears.
- Zach played recreational and club soccer in the Spokane Valley Junior Soccer Association. Zach quit playing when he joined the CVHS marching band, but he became a USSF licensed referee with his dad and sister, Roxanne. After high school Zach assisted his dad in coaching Jacqui's U-6 team before coaching boys' and girls' teams of his own.
- In his teens, Zach found Christ and was baptized at Spokane Valley Baptist Church. He also attended the Valley Real Life church for a time and recently mentioned that he wanted to return there. Zach enjoyed attending Ross Point Baptist Camp in Post Falls, ID. Zach believed fully in the grace of God and enjoyed the companionship of attending several Spokane-area churches. While Zach knew he wasn't perfect on earth, he had faith that he would be forgiven in heaven.
- Zach had two tattoos displayed prominently on his forearms. He got the first on his right forearm when he was only 17 by lying about his age. It was a large cross and crown of thorns with the words "Jesus Lives." The second, on his left forearm, was a large Christian fish and within it were the words, "Come, follow." Zach had a third tattoo placed over his heart. It is a family nickname for his sister, Jacqui, so she would always be near him.
- Zach did not yet know what his exact path would be in life but he knew that his calling was to help people. He loved kids and talked about someday being a youth minister or counselor and working with kids that were having trouble. Zach was a people person and he was at his best in a group, giving of himself to benefit the group. He could and would stop and talk to or help anyone on the street.
- Zachary was outgoing and had the qualities of a true leader. He was drawn to working in teams and to taking some of the toughest jobs. Zach worked in several jobs, but his favorite jobs were working with the road crews for Spokane County, and his most recent job at West Corp., where he had made some very significant new friendships.
- Zach leaves behind his mother and father, Bonnie and Jack, and two sisters, Roxanne (age 24) and Jacqui (age 10), all of Spokane Valley, and aunts, uncles and cousins all over the country. He also leaves many friends and a legacy of love and friendship for so many people. Zach was preceded in death by grandmother Jean (Moffett) McPeck of Sarasota, FL; grandfather Kenneth McPeck of Fairborn, OH; grandmother Mary (Howell) Renshaw of Gatlinburg, TN; grandfather James Parker of San Antonio, TX; and aunt Marti Farwell of Austin, TX.
- Zach loved to make people laugh and be happy, and everyone that knows him has at least one funny story to tell.
- All of Zach's old and new friends are invited to join his family and participate in a Celebration of Zach's Life on Saturday, November 15. Details on the celebration and a list of charities for donations can be found at www.ZachMcPeck.com. This is a place where people who knew Zach will be able to contact his family and share their pictures and stories with others.
- Our family extends thanks to the community of friends that have done so much to care for us, and to the staff at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home for taking care of Zachary.
