    Cover letter

I want to bring Valley into the 21st century
Our first city council will be faced with the daunting challenge of carefully building the foundation for our new city. Citizens who have proven and demonstrated leadership capability must set that foundation. Desiring to now participate is not enough.

The decisions ahead of us must be made with careful analysis and balance -- with a genuine desire to create a city where our children and grandchildren can grow and flourish.

My 22 years as an insurance broker and business owner, coupled with a lifetime commitment to civic affairs, has equipped me with the skills necessary to work with diverse groups of people, look at options and analyze data. Community and business boards have consistently chosen me as a leader to bring together disparate groups for a common purpose.

This first city council serves by statute as an ''interim city council'' with specific duties and powers. This first phase will entail dealing with the hiring of qualified people for critically important positions as well as determining what services and positions we can immediately provide for ourselves.

My wife Kathy and I have lived in the Spokane Valley for 25 years where we raised our daughter and two sons. We now have two wonderful grandchildren to whom we would love to give a healthy vibrant community. I am personally committed to bringing the Valley into the 21st century as a city we can all be proud of.

I ask for your support in this challenge.
