Davenport memory
Submitted by:
Rose Marie Roberts
In the late 40's and early 50's I was a student nurse at Sacred Heart and my mother was a waitress at the Davenport Hotel. Once a month she treated me to dinner at her station in the beautiful Italian Gardens dining room. It was very elegant with crystal chandeliers, potted palms and burgundy upholstered chairs. The waitresses wore uniforms and the bus-boys wore black trousers, short white jackets and black bow ties.
There were love-birds around the mezzanine and comfortable chairs and reading lamps. All the coins were washed and polished. The Hall of Doges and Queen Isabella rooms were beautiful.
