Davenport memory

Submitted by:
Ken Little

In 1941 I joined a club that met weekly at the old

downtown YMCA building. After the meetings several of us would go over to the Davenport Hotel to gather up spare change from beneath the cushions of the

overstuffed couches and chairs. We would typically

find enough pennies, nickels and dimes to buy

ourselves a cherry phosphate at a nearby drug store.
