Vary special memories were made as our family gathered at the Davenport Hotel for Thanksgiving in l980. Grandma Estby hosted all 25 of her immediate descendants for a traditional turkey dinner in a private banquet room. Two whole turkeys were wheeled in on carts, carved and served by waiters along with all the trimmings.
Candid photos of eating, visiting and cousins mugging were taken all afternoon. Two-year old Lynette was captured on film as she dipped her fingers in the butter dish. She later disappeared and was soon found in the kitchen eating a cookie provided by the staff. We all admired the lovely, imported wood-work which had been installed by our Great-grandfather Olaf Estby and Grandfather Arthur Estby when the hotel was being built.
Especially treasured are the pictures of Grandma with each of her nine grandchildren and his/her family as it was the last time we were all together before Grandma died. The Davenport Hotel made that Thanksgiving Day very special.
