Davenport memory

Submitted by:
Bill Sorenson

In the 50's and 60's URM Stores held their annual meeting and banquet at the Davenport. This was always a special occasion for us in the grocery business. The food, usually prime rib or Cornish Game Hens, was always wonderful and the service was extra special. One evening that sticks in my mind is during the entertainment, just before the Ink Spots were to perform, the actor John Carradine, who was staying at the hotel, peeked around one of the post and waved to the guests. These are the kinds of things that happened at the Davenport that made it a special treat to be there.
