Davenport memory

Submitted by:
Anderson Juli

I stayed at the Davenport in July, 1982, while in-processing as a new Army recruit. The hotel was more like a flophouse then. I was all of seventeen, from a tiny town, and Spokane sure seemed big. After I got off the Greyhound bus downtown, my old suitcase broke and I had to keep it shut with string.

Twenty years later I live in a different tiny town, even closer to Spokane. All I wanted to do back then was escape Eastern Washington, but after years of adventures far and wide, it's funny how things come back around.

Would I stay in the Davenport again? You bet - even if that stuffed polar bear no longer graces the lobby!
