Position: HOME DELIVERY ASSISTANT||

The Spokesman-Review has an immediate part-time (approximately 19-hours per week) opening for a Home Delivery Assistant. This entry level position must be flexible to serve as a backup for delivery of newspaper routes, assist with various customer service functions, have the ability to read a street map and work outside in all types of weather conditions. This position requires a valid Washington state driver’s license; provide proof of insurance and reliable transportation. Qualified applicants must enjoy working as part of a team to meet Circulation Department sales and service goals, as well as possess excellent organization, communication, and customer service skills. This position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds. The right candidate must be able to work flexible hours, including rotating weekends and holidays, as early as 1:30 am. This part-time position has a starting wage of $12 per hour, plus mileage reimbursement and includes a 401k with match after 90 days of employment! Position: Circulation Operations Manager:||

As the Circulation Operations Manager for S-R Media/The Spokesman-Review, you will have the opportunity to manage all aspects of home delivery, single copy and alternate delivery products ensuring day to day operations are run efficiently and in a timely manner. You will develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of departments dealing with service, product volumes, sales and revenue initiatives and expense goals. This position oversees three mid-level managers who combined oversee a total 50+ of direct reports plus independent contractors.
Once hired, here’s what we’ll need you to do.
• Develop and implement strategies to support home delivery and single copy revenue, volume growth and retention.
• Manage and forecast budgeted expenses for all aspects of distribution and service performance.
• Manage product flow as it relates to timely delivery, positioning/merchandising and product integrity.
• Provide weekly reports on Home Delivery and Single Copy trends including niche publications.
• Responsible for collection staff and aged receivable for all dealer and scan based accounts.
• Optimize distribution logistics and operations for Home Delivery and Single Copy volumes.
• Ensure that contractors adhere to their contractual obligations.
• Review all annual independent contractor agreements and rate proposals prior to offering.
Requirements and Skills:
• Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing or communications; or four+ years of industry experience; or equivalent combination of both experience and education.
• Minimum of five years management experience in a distribution related field preferred, with the ability to lead a large workforce.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Solid working knowledge in operations, systems, sales, marketing and finance.
• DTI proficient a plus

Wonderful opportunity to join the diversified Payroll Department of Cowles Company. We are currently looking for an experienced payroll person to assist with the preparation of biweekly payrolls for multiple affiliate companies across several states. Responsibilities include payroll, tax compliance, compensation and benefits taxation. Specific responsibilities include inputting the accurate and timely data of all payroll related information; initiating transfers of funds and data files for payments of Federal and State taxes, and retirement plans contributions; preparing and reconciling quarterly and year-end payroll tax reports, including W-2’s; reviewing and maintaining related audit trails and controls; implementing garnishments; and processing fringe and benefit enrollments. Duties also include maintaining our time keeping system by importing hours and leave accruals. This is a highly confidential, deadline driven position that requires the ability to multitask, stay focused, and produce results that are accurate and error free. Successful candidate must have experience working in positions that required a keen attention to detail and the timely preparation of various reconciliations. We require a minimum of 2-years full charge payroll experience. Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with PDS/Vista HRMS System, or another fully integrated payroll/HR system. Payroll certification, accounting degree, and experience communicating directly with Senior Accountants will be a plus. All applicants will be tested in Excel, Access, data entry, and relevant payroll knowledge.
