When Daniel and Carisa Dami built their large country Victorian home north of Spokane seven years ago, Carisa, who owns Carisa Interior Design, looked at it as a blank canvas.

Home and Garden TV recently filmed a segment of "Look What I Did," at the Dami home and featured, among other rooms, the basement guest room designed for Dami's mother- and father-in-law.

"My father-in-law is Italian and we call it their 'villa,'" Dami said.

Using garage sale finds, and pieces she purchased at antique stores, she fashioned a charming space. The gate against the wall was rescued after it was thrown away and the dough table was found at a garage sale.

When she decorated her 13-year-old daughter's room, Dami used a small throw pillow as inspiration.

"She was all over the place. First said she wanted contemporary and then she said she wanted frilly," Dami said. "I told her to find something to work around and she chose the pink-and-brown checked pillow."

Dami had a platform bed, illuminated by hidden rope lighting, built by Ronald Boles. Dami painted the walls a chocolate brown and painted the abstract canvases for eye-catching art.

"My daughter got a room that looks like it's in a hotel," Dami said. "I kind of wish it was mine."
