Election 2006 voters guide

Tax advisory vote

What it will do:

Should the State of Idaho keep the property tax relief adopted in August 2006, reducing property taxes by approximately $260 million and protecting funding for public schools by keeping the sales tax at 6%?

Supporters say:

The plan provides tax relief for homeowners who have seen dramatic property value increases in recent years.

Opponents say:

Shifting revenue from property to sales tax places a disproportionate burden on people who don't own property, most of whom have low incomes.
