Education: Graduated from Ferris High School in 1971. Bachelor's degree in geological engineering from the Univerity of Idaho, 1976. Master's degree in geological engineering from the University of Idaho, 1984.

Professional: Recently completed a five-year contract as Coeur d'Alene's stormwater coordinator. Retired from 20-year service with the U.S. Army.

Political: Ran an unsuccessful bid for the Washington State Senate in 1980 as a Republican. Former Republican precinct committeeman in the Spokane Valley.

Key issues: People are disillusioned with politics and don't need lawmakers reneging on promises. That's why he supports the July 2005 sunset on the 1 percent sales tax increase.
