On your mark, get set . . .
Running might be the last thing on some folks' minds the morning after Cinco de Mayo.
But for an estimated 50,000 runners, walkers, joggers and wheelchair users, today marks a different holiday – the 31st edition of the annual Lilac Bloomsday Run.
Teal portable toilets dotted the 7.46-mile course Saturday in preparation for the horde of participants who will pound the pavement.
This morning, out-of-town runners have from 6:30 to 8:30 to pick up numbers at the Spokane Convention Center.
Runners divided into eight color groups will depart from West Riverside Avenue downtown, with elite wheelchairs leaving at 8:40 a.m., elite runners starting at 9 a.m. and the final group departing about 10:10 a.m. The course closes at 1 p.m.
