The story: After running their own barbershop since 1961, twin barbers Bill and Jeff Haines, 67, closed up the Lincoln Heights Barber Shop for the last time on December 29.

"Our clientele has grown older," Jeff said. "There are just not enough new faces."

The two have always been together; Jeff was born two hours before Bill.

They both went to Rogers High School and often cut their friends' hair. Their father, Arthur, ran Art's Barber Shop, and he encouraged them to give it a try.

They both apprenticed under other barbers – Bill was at the South Side Barber Shop on 30th Avenue, and Jeff was working in Millwood.

In 1961, the two formed a business partnership and took over the South Side Barber Shop.

Started going to Jeff and Bill when I moved to Spokane in 1978. Always told them that they had no idea how to cut hair but hung around just to see how long I would keep comeing back. Best barbers in the business. We laughed and joked. We talked sports and hunting. And cars. Jeff's Mustang could never hold a candle to Bill's Chevy. And me being a Chey guy, Jeff knew better than to try to argue. The end of an era. They can never be replaced.

Jeff is my brother's father-in-law. After talking with him on several occasions, I know he is really going to miss seeing everyone at the barber shop. Jeff really loved working for all of thier customers. I know he'll miss you all!

What a wonderful tribute to two of the greatest barbers in Spokane. We are so happy for you both and are enjoying the now frequent babysitting! This is your time to enjoy your hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, etc. Love you Dad and Uncle Bill!
