The Spokane Fire Department have the upper hand on a massive fire in northeast Spokane.
The fire started with a fuel container containing biodiesel about 5:30 p.m. at Whitley Fuel Co., 2733 N. Pittsburg.
It spread to a truck with two tank trailers, each carrying 5,500 gallons of fuel, that had been parked at Whitley about two hours earlier, said Spokane Fire Chief Bobby Williams.
There were numerous explosions as firefighters worked at a distance.
Wind hampered the battle -- some of it natural and some caused by the fire itself.
In addition to Whitley Fuel, an attached business, Wheelchair Transport, was badly damaged by the fire, and impounded cars were destroyed at a nearby towing business.
Williams said all employees are accounted for, and it appears no one was injured in the fire that forced a neighborhood evacuation for two blocks in each direction.

Wow! Just when I was missing home... it's crazy how much amazing news happens in Spokane... the quiet Idaho life is so nice... great job Colin... and the rest of the SR team... the photos and video show just how crazy it must have been... keep up the good work!

Great job.
Great work in reporting the news, as
I saw it on comcast.com, jut learning
to surf this 'ing thing. However, hope
all persons and animals are alright and safe in Spokane, WA this season. It's a duzzy of alot of fire-related
things in Washington State, Dust Storms, in Phoenix, Arizona; and Major
Floods in the UK. I believe this is a
major change in the Weather, all over
Earth, and we should all consider the
possibility that these potential problems, may be an every year thing.
Like, I mean, I believe we have to come up with some major new ways of creating creative changes of like a network of people doing action, to help each other, during times like this, and later, and not expect, our
city and county and state, and fed,
support possibles to help us, even if
they exist, and are helping each other
and us, now. I believe we need to figure out some individual choices for
how to survive Earth's changes, daily,
like with some things, which really work, not just kinda. Like is it possible to create a 6-foot in diameter culvert or something, to pipe
the Columbia River, at Tri-Cities, into the Interior, by business measure, non for profit grant project,
or state measure, to pump needed water
for drinking, washing, "watering the
trees", agriculture, and fighting forest fires, reasons? Is it possible
to build some kind of all year round
piping of water from the East Arm of the Kootenai River, in the Interior, by business or people or state, to do
something together, which can solve the water problem. Can we as individuals find new ways to prevent
forest fires? or have we given the task to someone else's responsibility,
if only we knew who...cause gawd knows, offices are so big, you and I get tired of the run around, of the next office please! Anyway...glad the
Spokane Fire Department is working, and stay alive. Prepare though for a
four-to-five foot snow on the ground
winter.(I call these things, normal,
within one year of a nuclear test, on
Earth. You might be interested, yourselves! Just find out what the weather was like From June 1992 to Dec.1993, after June 1992 Nuclear Tests in NM, USA. Find out what the
weather was like from May 1998 to December 1999, after the E. India, Nuclear Tests in May(and 5 full moons,
in the night sky in one(1) month, in
August 1998)...anyway. Then project forward from North Korea Nuclear Tests
of October 2006. By this kind of projection, you can almost figure out
what will happen, next. You'll be amazed.) end.
