After giving birth to her second child, Jennifer Stoll, with the help of Deaconess Medical Center, used video conferencing Thursday to deliver the good news to her husband Maj.Kevin Stoll stationed in Iraq with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
When I first got this assignment, I learned that the local TV news stations were also invited to attend the video conference at the hospital. These types of events are tough to shoot. With so many journalists in one small room, we inevitably just end up tripping over each other.
I’m glad I made the decision to visit Jennifer at her mother’s house in Medical Lake, Wash., just before she went in for her C-section. I was able to get the lead-in interview out of the way and as a bonus, I was able to film a video chat with Kevin in Iraq via her home computer. It was good to be able to get Kevin’s impressions of the upcoming birth. I also learned how this cool technology is helping his and other military families keep in touch. It was also nice to know that I had something more in-depth than TV and that I was able to post my video before the early newscasts hit the airwaves.

Excellent job of bringing home what it must be like for families separated by War. Loved the genuine moments with a bit of humor at the end.
