Good news. Our studio at the Spokesman Review is just about finished. Since our launch we�ve been dividing our time between the SR, and our temp studios on 57th. ( Full post )

The Peak is back

Another radio format change in Spokane. But this time, something new is actually something old. On Friday, April 11th, �The Peak� was re-launched on 105.7. The Peak had been missing from our airwaves for five years, since the format was dropped in 2003. It them became �The Buzzard,� playing hard rock. That format never really caught on, the way the Peak did before it. The re-launched 105.7 will play pop alternative rock music from the 90�s and today, including Nirvanna, REM, Pearl Jam and the Foo Fighters.

SR is on the radio

SR radio has launched on KJRB. I think we�re off to a good start. There were one or two minor technical goofs, but nothing too serious. ( Full post )

Countdown to going live

SR on the radio goes live tomorrow. We�re all looking forward to the launch. You�ll continue to hear the broadcasts evolve in the coming weeks. And I know we�ll be very anxious to hear your feedback and comments. The first cast will be at 6:30am on 790 KJRB. After that you�ll be able to hear us at the bottom of every hour until 6:30pm. Still the Cat

Cat County 94 has changed�to 93.7 The Cat. Actually, the radio station will continue to play country favorites, but has decided to call itself by its actual frequency (93.7).

"New" Oldies

Radio station Z-107 (107.1) has changed format. Last week they switched from "Retro Top 40" to what Program Director Toby Howell calls more of a true "oldies" format. Their playlist now includes songs from 1960 to the mid 70's. Previously their music taste stretched from the early 1970's to the mid 1980's.

Gifford on Today Show

The Today Show on NBC...hoping for bigger ratings. The network has hired Kathie Lee Gifford to co-host the fourth hour of the show (her first broadcast is this morning). Of course, Gifford spent 15 years with Regis Philbin as co-host of "Live With Regin and Kathie Lee." The question is, will she still be able to deliver? ( Full post )

The countdown continues

Looks like we're on course to launch SR radio this coming Wednesday. So far the response has been very positive. I'm sure you'll hear a few growing pains in the coming weeks, as we discover what works on the air...and what doesn't. But that's part of the fun when you're starting something from the ground up. Paul harvey has been away from the microphone since February. Leading many to wonder if he's about to step down from his popular "News and Comment" feature on ABC radio. ( Full post )

Former Spokane DJ Dies

Darian O'Toole, who hosted a morning show here in Spokane at 105.7 The Peak in 2002/2003, died Monday. O'Toole, whose real name was Karin Begin, also worked in New York and San Francisco. ( Full post )

Making Progress

Being sick isn't fun. I've been dead on my back the past week, trying to get over the flu, so appologize for the lack of posts. The good news, while I was away, the contractors all but finished our new studio. The drywall is up, painting is finished, the window is in and our audio console has been installed. Looks like the engineers will come in today and begin the wiring process. We'll post new pictures soon.
