Biography: Carla Savalli
Carla T. Savalli is city editor of The Spokesman-Review. As city editor, she supervises 39 reporters and editors who cover local news issues in the region. She was named city editor in mid-December 2003.
Prior to joining the city desk, Savalli was The Spokesman-Review's business editor. In that role, she led a staff of five editors and reporters. Among the changes in business coverage under her three-year tenure was expansion of the local business report, the addition of a regular business columnist, and the debut of a yearly economic forecast tab.
Savalli joined The Spokesman-Review in 1992 as a copy editor and then became the night assistant city editor in 1997 before joining the business staff.
Savalli previously worked as a news editor at the Las Vegas Sun in Las Vegas and at the Daily News in Moscow, Idaho, and Pullman, Wash. She began her journalism career as a reporter at The Tacoma News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash.
She graduated from PLU in 1986 with a degree in communications arts.
She has attended numerous professional seminars and lectured throughout the region on journalism issues.
Savalli still has family in Spokane and a partner of seven years at home.
